Rio-a-Dentro Nature Tours - 1h30m
Itinerary: this is the shorter version of the Rio-a-Dentro Nature Tours, with 1h00 and 1h30 options. It is intended for groups with tighter schedules. Let's explore the Tagus River in detail in the area closest to Escaroupim. A river full of life, with luxuriant fauna and flora. Let's watch closely the horses that live completely free on the islands. Let's watch the many birds that nest here, which is something truly fantastic. We will sail between some islands and visit some secondary channels if the tide allows it. And above all, let's be surprised by so much wildlife and the beauty of the river.
We board at Cais do Escaroupim and go up the river and we'll pass through the Ilha das Garças (Egret's Island), the Ilha dos Cavalos (Horses' Island), the "Ilha dos Amores", among others. We pass through Valada and then descend to Aldeia da Palhota (Aldeia Avieira). The route is within a radius of 7 to 8 km around Escaroupim - Salvaterra de Magos.
Our Rio-a-Dentro Nature Tours are made and commented by guides who know the Tagus River and the local fauna and flora. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and bring a camera and binoculars.

The main goal is to show you the fauna and flora of our Tagus River in the most comfortable and relaxed way possible. We will discover a wild river full of life, with stunning landscapes that delight everyone who loves photography. The route covers 17 to 19 km around Escaroupim, along secondary channels and between islands. We pass by the riverside village of Valada and the Avieira village of Palhota.
We sail along the most beautiful stretch of the Tagus River: calm waters, blue skies, green banks, islands where horses roam freely, and countless birds of many different species.
We will take a closer look at Ilha das Garcas (Egret Island). During the nesting season, thousands of birds from several species can be seen there with their chicks, including spoonbills, glossy ibises, purple herons, cattle egrets, grey herons, little egrets, squacco herons and black-crowned night herons. Something truly unique and extraordinary.
We will also sail past other islands, including Ilha dos Cavalos (Horses Island), where horses live in complete freedom, and Ilha dos Amores (Island of Love). These are wild islands with little or no human presence, places filled only with nature, trees, plants, horses and birds.
Whenever the tide allows, our tours take place through the secondary channels, places of exceptional beauty and richness. This is important to us, because that is how we can show you a different Tagus River, full of life and vegetation, with a feeling of distant and exotic destinations.
We board at Cais do Escaroupim and travel up or down the river. Along the way, we pass islands such as Horses Island, Island of Love and Egret Island. We also pass the riverside village of Valada and Palhota, an Avieira village. When possible, we continue through other secondary channels near Praia Doce before returning to Escaroupim.
Our Rio-a-Dentro Nature Tours are led and interpreted by guides who know the Tagus River and the local fauna and flora well. We recommend comfortable clothing, and suggest bringing a camera and binoculars.
